Tonight we had our family picture taken. We had it taken in front of a barn in Hudsonville. It was a little c-c-c-c-cold. But it was still fun.

I smiled nice.

Abigail smiled big.

And Sophie couldn't keep her eyes off the cat!

It first showed up when the three of us were having our picture taken. It frightened me. But we got used to it and after a bit, didn't really mind having it nearby.

On July 29, I turned 5 years old! I had lots of fun. I had two parties for my birthday and saw all my family. I had cake and yummy treats and opened lots of presents. I really enjoy birthdays. :)

I finally had the courage to try water skiing again yesterday and I DID IT! It was a little frightening at first, but I got the hang of it and made it all the way around the circle without falling. I even had to make it over some really big waves!!! My friend Isabella also did it and Lilia too.

This year in 1st grade I learned about Mackinac Island. I begged and begged mommy and daddy to take us there. This week, they did! We had so much fun.

We went to a Butterfly House and saw lots of pretty butterflies from all over the world.

We went to this really cool toy store called Great Turtle Toys (the island is shaped like a turtle, I learned that in school).
We went right under the Mighty Mac, which is the nickname for the Mackinac Bridge connecting Michigan's two peninsulas.
We biked all the way around the island. It was 8.2 miles. Abigail and I took turns riding with Sophie in the Burley. She slept most of the way around.
We played in a cool waterpark in our hotel!

We smiled a lot for the camera. Sophie REALLY liked to say CHEEEEEEEEESE.

I used these big telescope things around the island to see things up close.

This is Abigail and me learning to make fudge. There are LOTS of fudge shops.

The Boat Parade, by Lilia and Abigail

On the Fourth of July, it was a little cool in the morning and didn't look like it was going to be a very nice day. It was then that mommy and daddy were reading that the theme of the 2009 Big Star Lake Boat Parade was going to be "Favorite Children's Book." So to keep us from getting bored for the day, mommy and daddy decided to decorate our boat for the parade. With Aunt Sara's help, they decided that it was going to be "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." So as we sat down for lunch at 1:00, daddy hurried to the store for supplies to decorate the boat. The parade started at 7:30, so there was not time to waste. We all helped draw, cut and paint the pieces for the boat. We think it turned out great!

Daddy drove the boat, and we each held up a piece of food that the caterpillar ate a hole in.

We didn't win a prize, but it was so much fun putting it together, and parading it around the lake for all to see.

It was a cool day at the cottage, so daddy and grandma Zylstra took me out in the golf cart and let me drive! It was a lot of fun. They worked the pedals while I steered.

Deer Swimming

This morning as we were eating breakfast Grandma asked, "what is that swimming in the water just past the dock?" We went out on the deck and were surprised with what we saw! It was a doe and a fawn. They came from across the lake and were heading towards shore. When they heard Sophie, they turned around and swam back across the lake. We were all amazed at how quick they could swim.

Auntie Sara managed to put a couple of pigtails in Sophie's hair over the July 4 holiday weekend. They didn't last long, but they were cute while they lasted!

We got to spend a little bit of time with our cousin Mariah in June when she came up for a visit. We played with her for a while at Grandma Iverson's house and she even came with us to the park. It was lots of fun playing with her.

On Father's Day, daddy played nine holes of golf with Grandpa Iverson and Papa. Sophie and I also wore our golf hats. I even got to play the first three holes with them. I didn't make any holes in one, but I still had fun.

Camping at Hoffmaster

Right after school got out, we went on a campout with a bunch of our friends from church. There were lots of kids our age. We had campfires, cookouts, camp games, nature walks and scooter rides. We got to stay in our cousins camper with was probably the best part.

Dancing in the Rain

Earlier this summer we had a nice gentle rain shower. It wasn't cold, but we decided to get all bundled up anyway to enjoy the raindrops. Sophie especially liked dancing in the driveway while the drops hit her little hood.

My last full week of school my 1st grade class took a field trip to Dutch Village in Holland. It was a lot of fun because during the school year, we learned a lot about the Netherlands. At Dutch Village, we learned about wooden shoes, windmills, dutch clothing and making candles. We also played games, danced and rode swings.

Today was a wonderful day to be outside. Today we played in the yard, in the playhouse, with sidewalk chalk and on our bikes. Even Sophie tried out her tricycle. After all that fun, we put on our suits and hopped in the hot tub with mommy and daddy.

Sophie was a little tired out after all this fun. She passed out on the family room floor while we ate dinner. We're thinking maybe we'll put her in the hot tub before we get on the airplane on Wednesday to help tire her out for the flight!

On Saturday, Mommy, Daddy, Abigail and I went to a Bowlathon to raise money for the Christian Learning Center. There were lots of kids there. I raised $125 for the CLC and all together we raised over $8,000! It was a lot of fun.

At first I used the ball roller because that was easier.

As a doorprize, I won a notebook.

I really liked it when they turned the lights out.

I even rolled a SPARE!!

Weekend with Dad, by Sophie

This weekend while Abigail and Lilia were away with Mommy, I got to spend some quality time with Daddy. On Saturday we played and ate and napped and went to Costco in the pouring rain. In the afternoon, we went to the home and garden show for a good two hour stroll. Sunday was less eventful with a trip to church and another nap at home. I missed Mommy and my sisters, but I had a really good time with Dadddy!

Today it was in the 60's and sunny, so we actually got to play outside!! We played with sidewalk chalk and our soccer ball, and then daddy got the jeep out so we could go for a ride. Sophie was a BIG fan of the jeep.

On February 20, Sophie had her first birthday! We had three parties in all for Sophie with lots of family, food, cake and presents. We also celebrated MY birthday! I turn 7 on March 2. Ada Christian School had its annual Carnival on Friday night. I took my mom and dad and sisters with me for a night of food and fun! My friends were there, too. Kaley, Bella, Taylor and Courtney were there with their families. We played several games and won lots of tokens. At the end of the night I got to buy toys with my tokens. I got a bracelet, a ring, a candy bracelet and a fun dip. We also did the cake walk. We did it four times. On the last time, daddy and I both won! Daddy let Abigail pick out a sweet treat for him. I picked frosted valentines cookies and Abigail picked heart-shaped sugar cookies.

New Years at the Cottage, by Abigail

We spent the week of New Years at the cottage this year with our family. We had sooooo much fun, especially skating on the lake. The ice was just perfect for skating. At the beginning of the week I wasn't so good at skating and I fell a lot. But by the end of the week I was skating just as fast as everyone else and could even make turns and stops! It was my favorite activity. We also stayed busy sledding, making crafts, coloring and just playing with our cousins.

I found out this weekend that the Libby Lu store near my house is closing in January. Since this is where I wanted to have my ears pierced, I needed to decide if I wanted to get my ears pierced or not (because this is the only place that puts glitter in your hair after you get your ears pierced). I decided that if mommy would go with me and if i could take a stuffed animal with me, I would get it done this weekend. It went pretty well. I was a little scared, as the pictures show, but by the time we left, I couldn't even feel the earrings. My mommy was soooo proud of me.

We had a couple of Christmas Programs this week. On Sunday we had our church program. Dad got a couple of pictures before the program in the hall with our friends. He also got some video inside, but the pictures didn't turn out too good because the lighting was low. We sang really well and had lots of fun.

The second program of the week was Tuesday night. It was Abigail's program with her preschool. She sang good, but there were lots of boys in her class that were misbehaving. Mommy said they were naughty.

We went to see Santa on Saturday. He was at Egypt Valley again this year. He had goody bags for all the boys and girls that sat on his lap. We were pretty shy, and really couldn't think of anything to ask for. So he said he would bring socks. :( Sophie was a little shy at first, but then really enjoyed his soft beard.

Today we had a sick day. Sophie had an ear infection, Lilia had the flu and I had my usual croup-like cough (oh, and a black eye, but that's another story). Anyway, daddy was our lovely host for the sick day. He seemed kind of tired all day, I think Sophie and Lilia kept him up pretty much all of the night before, but he was a good sport. We even got to play dress-up. I have a new Hannah Montana wig. IT'S BEAUTIFUL. I look just like Hannah when I wear it. Anyway, I thought it would be super cute on Sophie as well.

Isn't she a doll? Like, literally, A DOLL? Clearly a candidate for American Girl Doll of the year next year. :)

Gingerbread Houses, by Lilia

On Sunday we went to brunch at Egypt Valley with our friends the Burgesses. After a complete meal of waffles with sprinkles, bacon and desserts, we went to another room where we made gingerbread houses. What fun!! We each made our own house and we were able to decorate them with hundreds of different kinds of candies!

Sophie stopped at a Christmas tree to check out all the fake presents. With that smile, you would never guess she had a fever and an ear infection!!

The day after Thanksgiving we went to Big Star Lake. Our friends the Woods and Kleins were also there. They had made a slide out of snow to sled down. It was great fun! The trick was to make it all the way to the bottom without sliding off the edge into the grass -- because there wasn't all that much snow.

I took Sophie on her first ride on a sled. It was great fun. She didn't fall off. And I didn't let the sled go too fast, as you can see in the video.

Sophie also made her first snowman. At only 9 months, we're very pleased with her accomplishment.

A few Sundays ago, when it was still fall, Daddy took us for a walk through the woods with the camera. We were hoping to see some deer, but only spotted a few squirrels and a lot of leaves. We collected leaves and pressed them in a book when we got home. Daddy also took some pictures of us playing in the leaves.

Today we decided that it was time to ride our bikes without training wheels. At first we were a little wobbly and needed mom and dad to run behind us holding us up. But after a few rides up and down the street, we were ready to go without them. We are still a little wobbly around the corners, but we are now able to ride straight, start and stop without help!

On Friday night, we went out on the practice range with daddy and Grandpa Iverson. We first hit putts on the putting green and then hit drives with our drivers. It was a lot of fun, and we hit the ball far!! We think we're going to be pretty good with a little more practice.

I love tubing!! I can even go by myself without an adult now. Here's a picture of me with my cousin Ally. We call this the "sit tube" because we can sit in it without having to hang on too tight. Maybe some day I will try water skiing. Probably when I'm 5.

For the first time ever, I made it up on water skis! We were at Big Star Lake and my cousin Morgan and I both tried it and both had success! We each made a few small circles behind my uncle Doug's Sea Doo. It was a lot of fun. So much fun that my mom and dad bought us our own water skis so we don't have to borrow our neighbors! Today we got to meet Santa Claus. We sat on his lap and told him what we thought we should have for Christmas. He thought maybe we wanted a potato or some dirt, but we set him straight. We said we wanted paints and stickers and paintbrushes. We also got to meet Frosty and Rudolph. It was lots of fun!

Today we decorated gingerbread houses at Egypt Valley. It was really fun. They had SO much candy, it was like being in a CANDY STORE!! We each got to wear aprons and decorate our own house. Daddy helped Lilia and Mommy helped Abigail. They turned out really cute and we have them on display in our kitchen. Mommy told us not to eat the candy while we were making them, but we managed to sneak in a few pieces when she wasn't looking. Don't tell her!

On Saturday we were at the cottage with our cousins Ally and Morgan. We had great fun playing in the leaves. We also got a little bit dirty. It was REALLY cold, but we didn't mind it too much. This week we carved our pumpkins for Halloween. We wanted them to be cute pumpkins, not scary. We drew the shapes of the eyes, nose and mouth in marker. Our dad cut them out with a knife. He also scooped out the yucky parts, because we didn't like it. It was dad's idea to put ears on our pumpkins. Aren't they cute?

Tonight I got to be a cheerleader at Grand Rapids Christian High School's football game. It was GREAT! We were all given special shirts to wear. Mine read "Class of 2020" (my mom and dad said that made them feel old). There were lots of people watching, and I was a little nervous. I had LOTS of fun. Daddy bought me some popcorn for doing a SUPER job. Here are a couple of pictures and a video of one of my favorite cheers.

This weekend we went golfing with daddy. I really enjoyed golfing with Lilia and daddy. My favorite part was washing golf balls. Lilia liked keeping score and holding the flag on the green. On Wednesday, I was picked by my teacher to bring home Busy Bear. Busy Bear gets to go home each night with someone in my Kindergarten class. Busy Bear carries a journal and we have to write what we did with Busy Bear. I took Busy Bear to ballet with me. Here's a picture of Busy Bear in a tutu. I also took Busy Bear with me to the library and the park. Tomorrow I will bring Busy Bear back to school with me. I am excited about school tomorrow because we are going to make applesauce.

Today we had our neighborhood block party. It was SO much fun. We had kids from all over our neighborhood in our cul-de-sac for a picnic. We had LOTS of food and TONS of tasty desserts. Our favorites were powdered doughnuts and cookies with pink frosting. After lunch a big red firetruck came to our street. All of the kids got to climb into the truck. Then we all played in the grass next to the truck while the truck sprayed water on us. Then each kid got a can of silly string and we made a big MESS.

Today was my first soccer game. My games are in front of my school, Ada Christian. At first I wasn't so sure, but after a few "touches" I discovered I really can play soccer! It was great. My dad is the assistant coach and our shirts are PURPLE. I get to wear the number 4. I can't wait until our next game. Here's a video of me in action! I'm in the brown sweat pants.

Today was my second day of Gymnastics. I call it 'Nastics for short. I LOVE 'Nastics. I love my leotard shorts, the balance beam and the bars, but most of all I love the TRAMPOLINE!
